8. Walk the trail of the secret glow worm tunnel
Did you know Byron has its own glow worm tunnel? To access the secret abandoned tunnel, go down a disused railway line surrounded by vegetation.
The hike is flat and simple, and you’ll soon find yourself in the dark. Once you’ve turned out with all the lights and let your eyes adapt, you’ll be standing under what appears to be a starry night sky. It’s an amazing experience, especially since you can go in the middle of the day.
9. Try swimming with natural aromatherapy oils
It seems so fitting for Byron that you can go wild swimming in a lake infused with tea tree oil from the surrounding trees. Lake Ainsworth, often known as ‘Tea Tree Lake’, is a stunning freshwater lake in Lennox Head, about 25 minutes south of Byron Bay. Locals will come here to unwind and get away from the noise and bustle. The tea tree oils are what give the lake its distinct color, and it feels amazing on your skin. The water is really tranquil, and the lake is large enough to allow for a thorough swim.
10. Look for the elusive wild Platypus
This is one for wildlife enthusiasts because Platypus are known to be quite timid, and there is no guarantee you will see one.
