When is the best time to visit Byron Bay?

You can expect warm summers and mild winters, with an average of 28°C in summer to 20°C in winter, making it a desirable destination throughout the year. You’ll find different events, markets and activities on no matter the season.

Summer (December - February)

Temperatures averaging between: 20°C to 28°C (68°F to 82°F)

Getting To Byron Bay

Airports

The most convenient way to reach the region from overseas is to fly into nearby airports such as Gold Coast Airport (OOL) or Brisbane Airport (BNE). Both airports offer international flights and are located within a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Byron Bay.

Visa Requirements

Most visitors will need to get a valid visa before travelling to Australia (except for New Zealand citizens who will be issued with visas upon arriving in Australia). The type of visa you require will depend on your nationality, length of stay, and purpose of visit.

Our vibrant town center is relatively compact and pedestrian-friendly, making it ideal for exploring on foot or by bicycle, but if you need to travel a little further there are a number of transport options available.

There are local bus services, taxi companies and rideshare options available for longer journeys or trips to nearby attractions. Guided tours are also popular options.

Hire a Car

Many reputable car rental companies operate out of Gold Coast and Brisbane Airports, offering a wide range of vehicles to suit different needs and budgets. Generally international visitors are allowed to use their existing driving licences for three months after arriving in Australia, however you should check if any different rules apply to you. Remember, Australians drive on the left hand side of the road!
